How to Track Link Clicks
See how many people click your links, and learn who they are, where they are, and what they use.
A short link is more than a tidy address. With a free ShortifyMe account, every link you create is tracked, so you can see how many people clicked it. This guide shows how to read your click data, from the total on your dashboard down to the device, location, and referrer behind each click.

Quick Answer
To track link clicks, create a free ShortifyMe account and create your links while signed in. Every link is then tracked automatically. Open the Dashboard to see total and unique clicks across all links, or open any single link’s detail view to see clicks for just that link. A free account shows click counts; paid plans add breakdowns by device, browser, operating system, referrer, and location.

Step 1. Create Your Links with a Free Account
Click tracking only works for links created while signed in to an account. Links made in guest mode, on the website or the extension without logging in, are not tracked. Create a free account, then create your links from the dashboard. Every link made this way is tracked from its first click.
Step 2. Read Your Dashboard
When you sign in, the Dashboard is the first screen, and it summarizes clicks across all your links.
At the top, four boxes show your headline numbers:
Total links
How many links you have created.
Active links
How many of those are currently active.
Total clicks
All clicks across all your links.
Unique clicks
Clicks counted once per visitor, which filters out repeat clicks from the same person.
Below the boxes is a “Clicks & Scans Over Time” graph, with the number of clicks on the vertical axis and dates along the horizontal axis. You can zoom in and out of this graph to see a historical view of your traffic.
Below the graph, more breakdowns show your clicks and scans by device, by referrer, by browser, by operating system, and by location, with locations listed by country and sorted by the most clicks, including each country’s share of the total.
Step 3. See the Data for One Specific Link
The dashboard combines all links. To see one link on its own, use its detail view.
Step 1
Click ShortifyMe Links in the left navigation.
Step 2
Find the link you want in the list. You can use search or the date filter to narrow it down.
Step 3
Open that link’s View Detail option.
Step 4
The detail view shows the link, its title, its destination, its click and unique click counts, and the date created.
Step 5
Below that, the same style of charts as the main dashboard, engagement over time, referrers, devices, browsers, operating systems, and location, but for this one link only.
What You Can Track on Free vs Paid
A free ShortifyMe account tracks total clicks and unique clicks for every link you create. That alone answers the most important question: how many people clicked. Paid plans, starting at $7.99 per month, add the detailed breakdowns, who clicked by device, browser, and operating system, where they came from by referrer, and where they are by location. If you need to know not just how many clicks but what kind, a paid plan provides it.
Tracking QR Code Scans
QR code scans are tracked the same way as link clicks. On the QR Codes screen, each QR code shows its scan count, and its View Detail view shows the same kind of charts scoped to that QR code. Throughout ShortifyMe, a scan of a QR code and a click on a link are tracked with the same analytics.
Why Tracking Clicks Is Worth It
Tracking turns sharing into learning. If you use a separate link for each channel, your email, your social posts, your printed materials, the click data shows which ones actually drive traffic. That tells you where your effort and budget are working. Without tracking, every channel looks the same. With it, you can stop guessing and put your time where it produces results.

Total clicks counts every click. Unique clicks counts each visitor once, so repeat clicks from the same person do not inflate the number. Unique clicks gives you a clearer sense of how many different people engaged.

On a paid plan, yes. Paid plans show clicks by referrer, which is the website or source a click came from, and by location. A free account shows total and unique click counts but not these breakdowns.
Yes. QR code scans are tracked the same way as link clicks. Each QR code shows its scan count, and its detail view shows the same charts as a link, scoped to that QR code.
